Mac. The drinkingest, smokingest, most out of shape inshape competitor I ever met. The only time I beat him in Tennis was when he had a sprained ankle. Luckily I was to even this up in Squash in later years. I met him freshman year when he had the three in one sharkskin suit with 2 detachable collars reminiscent oof the Beatles. I even bet against him in the Great Arby Consumption only to come up short when he choked down that last Arby roast beef sandwhich. With about three minutes left, he stuffed it into his mouth and clearly was struggling, with about thirty seconds to go he reached over to his handler Tom Pipich (aka Ralph) for the cup of soda that Ralph was holding only to discover that Ralph in the excitement had drank his soda. He was clearly in trouble when in a stroke of genius, he bolted from the crowd with a mouthful of roast beef and bun, all of us close on his heels when he found a puddle in which he dove head first into with about 20 seconds to go. Well the rest is lost to history up in Green Tree Park but not to all of us who were there. Interestingly when he came up from the puddle there was nothing left of the last Arby in his mouth. Mac was a thespian and comic of the first order. A guy with a big heart. Rest in Peace my friend. rt
tribute by richard tobinI knew Mac since he was 4 years old. He lived in the old neighborhood with myself, John Miller, Bill Schultz, Cathy Devlin and Tom & Bill David. We all went to Kindergarden together and from there on to St.Philips. Mac moved to the St. Malachy parish but we all were joined together again at Canevin. Mac was a quality guy. RIP Mac.
